Philippine-based Company NOW Corporation, and its affiliate subsidiary, NOW Telecommunications Company have just signed a memorandum of agreement with one of the world’s leading Mobile Phone Technology companies, Nokia.

NOW Telecommunications which is a company owned by Filipino broadcast icon Mel V. Velarde has partnered up with Nokia, one of the pioneers in the mobile phone industry to deliver the fast, seamless, and state-of-the-art technology that is 5G straight to the Philippines.

5G, which simply means the “Fifth Generation” of broadband connectivity standard which could deliver Internet speeds about fifty (50) times faster than the current maximum Internet standard in the country which is 4G (Fourth Generation).

Though this is not the first of its kind in the country, this would be the first-ever “stand-alone, 5G only” service in the country.

The term “stand-alone 5G” means that it will be making use of the innovative 5G Packet Core Architecture and not the currently existing 4G ones.

NOW’s two biggest market competitors, Globe Telecom Inc. and Smart Telecommunications Inc. have been the first ones to make their mark in the Philippines’ budding 5G market as each of the two telco giants has already rolled out their 5G services in the second and third quarter of 2019 respectively.

Though again, both Globe and Smart’s 5G services currently are based on the 4G Core Architecture, unlike NOW Telecom’s “stand-alone, made for 5G only type of architecture” version.

Dito Telecommunity (known as “Philippines’ Third Telco”), on the other hand, operates under a 4G blanket coverage though according to the company, they will be having their own “stand-alone 5G” as well and it would be coming mid-2021.

The "5G Revolution" in the Philippines could spell the end to the country’s notoriety as having the “worst internet connection speed” in the Asia Pacific as the transition from 4G to its successor would lead to a much-needed breakthrough.

Globe, Smart, Dito Telecommunity, and NOW Telecom have one clear mission and that is to revolutionize the Philippines’ Internet Telecommunication Industry in ways like never before.
